Applications of DYTEK® |
| Chemical Intermediates |
| The various DYTEK® Intermediates offer a wide selection of functional groups and possibilities for chemical modifications. Primary and secondary Amine, Imine, Nitrile, Double bonds, Boron atoms, á, â-unsaturations. Combining this with standard reactions like hydrogenation, saponification, Michael-Addition, Cyclisation, Acylation allows the access to many interesting and versatile intermediates. Some of those are already outlined in the application descriptions on this web page. Many of them however could not be cited and even more are waiting for your innovative chemistry.
In order to get you started we can supply you with samples and information about the products. Then you can start thinking about new heterocycles, branched amines, â-substituted acids, optically active aliphatics, ... |

Our INVISTA products can be used in two major market segments; pharmaceutical intermediates and agricultural chemicals. Our Specialty Amines such as DYTEK® 3APN, DYTEK® 2PN and DYTEK® HMI are unique building blocks for developing pharmaceutical intermediates. For example DYTEK® 2PN-HP is a linear unsaturated liquid nitrile. Its conjugated double bond enables a series of addition reactions at the (beta) carbon, producing ethyl-branched derivatives. Many of our products are unique starting materials that have biological active properties. Consider DYTEK® MGN, DYTEK® HMD, DYTEK® EP, DYTEK® HMI and DYTEK® A for these applications. Our boron product, DYTEK® TIPB is a precursor in the formation of Suzuki coupling reagents. In the agrochemical market, DYTEK® HMI, DYTEK® MGN and DYTEK® A, can be used as intermediates in the manufacture of herbicides and insecticides, DYTEK® HMI and DYTEK® 2PN are intermediates that can work to meet your needs.

| Miscellaneous |
| Specialized applications for our products include the use of DYTEK® TIPB in the photo-initiator application for radiation or energy curing. Radiation curing or UV curing uses a radiation source to polymerize a monomer & oligomer formulation with a photo-initiator, to keep a coatings substrate in place and DYTEK® HMI can be used as a solvent dye. |

| Paints and Coatings |
INVISTA DYTEK® Amines are widely used in a variety of paint and coating applications, including thermoplastic polyamide powder coatings, waterborne polyurethane systems, and epoxy coatings for industrial maintenance, civil engineering, chemically resistant systems, and decorative treatments. In polyamide powder coatings, DYTEK® A is utilized as a critical monomer in the design of the polyamide resin backbone while several of the diamines, including DYTEK® A and DYTEK® HMD, are used as their isocyanates in the formulation of polyurethane coating systems. Cross-linking or curing of epoxy coatings systems is a major use for DYTEK® DCH-99 as well as DYTEK® A.

| Plastic Additives and Resins |
DYTEK® amine and boron products give improved attributes to a wide variety of plastics and resins. The use of these additives often leads to improved product appearance, performance and higher productivity. Just a few of the applications for these additives are shown below.

| Polyamides (monomers and additives/modifiers) |
Many products in the INVISTA DYTEK® Amines portfolio are widely used as monomers or additives in polyamides. The primary use of DYTEK® HMD is as the diamine component of Nylon 6,6 polyamide. However, additives such as, DYTEK® A and DYTEK® BHMT are also incorporated to provide improved physical properties for a variety of applications. Many of these improvements are shown in the table below.

| Polyurethanes |
Polyurethanes (PU), the polymerization product of polyisocyanates and polyols (polyester or polyether polyols), are made using two basically different technologies. In the “one shot” method, polyisocyanate, polyol, additives and chain extenders are simply mixed in a mixing head and applied.
In the pre-polymer system there are two separate reaction steps. The first step is the reaction of one equivalent of polyol with up to two equivalents of isocyanate to yield an isocyanate-terminated pre-polymer. The final polyurethane is then formed by the reaction of the pre-polymer with a small bifunctional molecule containing active hydrogens - the so-called chain extender or curing agent. The chain extender links the pre-polymer molecules together and hence increases their molecular weight to form a complete polymer network.
The chain extender has a direct influence on the distribution of both hard and soft segments in the polyurethane polymer. The degree of crystallinity and crosslinking are also affected, depending on the structure of the chain extender and whether it is amino- or hydroxyl-functional.
DYTEK® A (MPMD), DYTEK® EP (DAMP) and DYTEK® DCH-99 are used as chain extenders in a wide range of PU systems including coatings, adhesives, and elastomers. These specialty amines can help you to formulate new and innovative systems.
Another application of INVISTA DYTEK® amines is their use as isocyanate precursors. DYTEK® HMD (Hexamethylenediamine) is widely used in this application, particularly for the formulation of coatings, while DYTEK® A expands the availability of unique isocyanate monomers and imparts unique properties to elastomers and sealants.

| Water Treatment |
| Polykis-phosphonic acid and polyacetic acid derivatives produced from INVISTA DYTEK® Amines are used in a variety of water treatment applications such as scale inhibition, chelation and flocculation. DYTEK® HMD, DYTEK® A, DYTEK® DCH-99, DYTEK® BHMT, and DYTEK® BHMT-HP are all used as their acid derivatives in these applications. DYTEK® BHMT and DYTEK® HMD are favored for lower cost uses, such as down-hole applications in oilfield work, while DYTEK® A imparts improved aqueous solubility to its products for chelation chemistry. DYTEK® DCH-99 derivatives, primarily the tetraacetic acid derivative, are used as analytical reagents for aqueous systems in QA laboratories and have been used as specialty flocculants in pulp mills. |
